Melissa Cordeiro is a lifelong Bristolian. She grew up the proud daughter of immigrant parents from the Azores, who were drawn to America by the promise of economic opportunity. By helping her parents navigate through life in America, Melissa learned the importance of providing excellent customer service and seeing firsthand how helping someone (even with something small) can have a meaningful and lasting impact.

She started working at 15 to help pay bills at home after her father was disabled at work. After graduating from Mt Hope High School in 1996, Melissa worked for various local businesses. In 2000, she began working at Sovereign Bank in customer service relations and after a year, became a customer service manager which helped refine her leadership and problem-solving skills.

Since 2007, Melissa has been a Senior Clerk for the town of Bristol. Whether it be land evidence, voting, vital records, or probate proceedings, Melissa has gained first-hand knowledge of the office. Her rigorous dedication to the accuracy and preservation of important records for the benefit of the community is deep-rooted in her commitment and loyalty to the community and the people in it. Her time with the office has provided her with insight into the types of changes necessary to fulfill the mission of the office.

As the mother of two boys, Melissa sought to teach her children the importance of being involved with the community through her own example. She worked with the King Philip Little League as a parent volunteer, the Bristol Warren Jr. Huskies Parents’ group, as well as fundraising for the Mt. Hope Huskies Hockey team. She volunteered her time to the Bristol Warren Education Foundation’s “Bodacious Bee” event and also the "Cory Burke Won’t Fight Alone” fundraiser. Melissa has also been involved in numerous local events for breast cancer awareness and the American Lung Association.

Today, her oldest son Michael is a 2012 graduate of Mt. Hope High School and works for AT&T. Her youngest son, Kyrik, attends St. Michael's College in Vermont.
